Domestic Beer in Cambodia.. a potted history

Cambodia has a rich history of beer production, dating back to the early 1960s when the Angkor Brewery was established.

Today, its flagship beer, Angkor Beer, is still one of the most popular beer brands in Cambodia alongside Cambodia Beer, which was established in 1996 as a joint venture between the Cambodian government and the Danish company Carlsberg and now owned by the Cambodian brewery Chip Mong Brewery.

In recent years, the craft beer scene has been gaining ground in Cambodia. Kingdom Breweries, Krud Beer, and Hanuman are among the breweries producing unique and flavorful beers.

Kingdom Breweries produces its popular Kingdom Pilsner, while Krud Beer is known for its sustainability focus and use of local ingredients. Hanuman uses local spices to create its unique and flavorful brews.

The major breweries and craft breweries can learn from each other, with the former benefiting from the innovative spirit and quality focus of the latter, while the craft breweries can learn from the scale and distribution networks of the former.

Collaboration between the two segments of the market can help create a more diverse and exciting beer industry in Cambodia.

When in Phnom Penh you can enjoy the range of Cambodian beers, including Angkor Beer, Cambodia Beer, Kingdom Breweries, Krud Beer, and Hanuman, at The Box Office.

With so many great options available, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. So sit back, relax, and let the flavors of Cambodian beer enhance your after noon, evening or movie-watching experience at The Box Office.

Cheers!
